Chiropractic Care for Adults With Pregnancy-Related Low Back, Pelvic Girdle Pain, or Combination Pain: A Systematic Review.

Chiropractic Care for Adults With Pregnancy-Related Low Back, Pelvic Girdle Pain, or Combination Pain: A Systematic Review. It is common for women to experience Low back pain, pelvic girdle pain or a combination of both during pregnancy and post-partum. With up to 90% of women reporting that they had low back pain and of this, 30% experiencing it for the very first time. There is uncertainty to what causes the pain experienced, but it has been theorised that it may be due to weight gain, changes in hormone levels and altered biomechanics. A recent study by Carol AnnWeis, et al. (2020) the aim was to conduct a systematic review of the literature to assess the effectiveness of chiropractic care options commonly used for pregnancy-related low back pain, pelvic girdle pain, or a combination for both experienced practitioners and students of chiropractic. It was concluded that although there was a lack of evidence, many of the interventions have moderate or unclear but favourable outcomes.
