In South Africa, many of the medical schemes make provision for the reimbursement of chiropractic services. The Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act provides for complete reimbursement of cases treated by registered chiropractors. However, it also does depend on each person’s payment plan as to the extent to which they are covered. What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a western medical field, that chiropractors study 6+ years to become proficient in. Doctors of Chiropractic are diagnosticians like a GP. They, however, do not treat with prescribed medications, but rather with their hands. Treatment includes applying manual therapy to address pain and dysfunction in nerves, muscles, and joints. It includes aligning the spine to primarily off-load abnormal pressures that lead to pain and dysfunction. It focuses on restoring mobility to spine and joints that have become dysfunctional, immobile, stiff, inflamed, and/or hindered.
